Celtic have been subjected to financial penalties from UEFA for several years. Pyro has been a source of discussion at Celtic as the governing body attempted to eliminate its use in the game.
UEFA adopted a harsh position against three member clubs after they used illegal explosives during Champions League and Europa League matches. But this time, Celtic could face UEFA sanctions for something Brendan Rodgers may have done at halftime during the Parkhead match against RB Leipzig.
Neil Lennon thinks Celtic could face UEFA sanction for late half time show
During the first half analysis, Neil Lennon stated that if Celtic delayed the start of the second half, they could face a UEFA sanction.
Lennon told TNT Sports that “this is quite strange because Leipzig are out, the referees are out, and Celtic are not out.”
“That might result in a UEFA fine, believe it or not. Honestly, it’s all about timing, and I’m not sure if Brendan is just saying a few extra words with some of them.”
In 2020, UEFA fined Celtic €15,000 for Neil Lennon’s actions during the delay in the start of their game against FC Copenhagen. It is still unclear what the particular activities were. So it appears Lennon is speaking from experience here.
Celtic also received a UEFA sanction in 2020 for having too many players booked in a Europa League match against Lille. Could Celtic lose the support of the governing body for such a little issue on Tuesday night? I wouldn’t put anything past UEFA, given how tight their standards are.
