Coventry City boss can’t hide his anger as brutal admission made after Derby County defeat

Coventry City match reaction via CoventryLive: Mark Robins shares his thoughts on the Sky Blues’ encounter versus Derby County.

Mark Robins claimed that Coventry City’s poor performance against Derby County was just not good enough, and the manager accepts full responsibility for the result. Jerry Yates intercepted a weak Jack Rudoni backpass to the keeper, circled Oliver Dovin, and scored from a close range with only 11 minutes on the clock.

The visitors then increased their lead midway through the second half under controversial circumstances, with Robins and his staff alleging Yates was four yards offside when he hit a shot that bounced off Bobby Thomas and looped up over the goalie.

However, Coventry were far off the pace as they suffered their fourth home Championship defeat of the season, while Derby won their first away game.

“What frustrates me and everyone watching, I believe, is that one minute we are at a pretty high level, and then a few days later we are miles away from it. We were well off the mark in the first half. “We gave them a leg up,” stated a visibly irritated Mark Robins later.

We should have won tonight’s game… We have some extremely talented players, but they did not perform to expectations. If they perform at their expected level against a team as hard-working as Derby, who work tirelessly to prevent us from playing and deny us space…

“They also have some quality, which makes them a threat and a decent squad. They placed us under pressure, so we played the ball backwards and encouraged it on. “The back-pass from Jack (Rudoni) was unusual, but they scored and took the lead.

” He continued, “But the energy just wasn’t there. You must move the ball quickly and attempt to shift them rapidly. We attempted to play the same manner we did against Middlesbrough, but the game was different. I accept responsibility for it and the outcomes. Tonight was not good enough.”

When asked about the second goal and accusations that it was offside following a long punt up from the Derby keeper that was flicked onto Yates, the manager said: “Yeah, my staff are telling me it was around four yards off-side. If this is the case, what is he doing? I don’t know because I haven’t seen it back, but my staff says it’s way off-side. They say approximately four yards, but well off-side.”
