Premier League make controversial Nottingham Forest v Newcastle United decision after double ban

The officials for Sunday’s match between Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have been revealed by the Premier League.

With their victory over Arsenal over the weekend, the Magpies snapped a five-game losing streak in the Premier League and won back-to-back games. Despite having their manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, in the stands for those victories due to a three-game touchline ban, Nottingham Forest is currently in third place in the table and four points ahead of their visitors.

After protesting Morgan Gibbs-White’s red card during their draw with Brighton last month, the former Wolves and Spurs manager was fired. He also received a three-game suspension for his response. Referee Rob Jones first suggested that the midfielder had the ball in the tackle, but the fourth official told him to change his mind and give Gibbs-White a second yellow card instead.

Anthony Taylor, who will officiate this Sunday’s match between Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, was the fourth official on that particular day. Jones gave Espirito Santo a red card as a result of his response to the dismissal. After receiving the red card, Gibbs-White was also given a ban, but he has since resumed playing.

The FA released the following statement: “An appeal by Evangelos Marinakis of Nottingham Forest regarding misconduct at their Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday, 28 September has been dismissed by an Appeal Board.”

Evangelos Marinakis was accused of acting inappropriately in the vicinity of the tunnel following the conclusion of that game. Although he contested the claim, an independent Regulatory Commission deemed it to be true, and he was suspended from the stadium and ground for five games.

On Sunday, Espirito Santo will be back in the dugout for a game that pits Chris Wood and Elliott Anderson against their previous employers. Before the international break, Howe’s team is aware that a victory would put them just one point behind Forest.
