‘No loyalty’- £3m star lifts lid on Wolves exit as brutal manager conversation revealed

Barry Douglas, a former full-back for Wolverhampton Wanderers, recently revealed the reasons behind his

departure from the Molineux Stadium after leaving the team to join Leeds United in 2018.

Douglas believed that after the current Nottingham Forest manager allegedly informed him that he would “not be

included” in the squad for their 2018–19 Premier League campaign, he was ejected from the team by then-manager

Nuno Espirito Santo. Douglas claims it was “just business,” but he has no animosity toward Santo.

Despite playing with Wolves for just one season, Douglas was able to make an impression on the supporters. He
played in 39 league games for Wolves overall, scoring five goals as they won the Championship and were promoted.

“I’m all for rising to the challenge to compete with someone, it’s the opportunity I want,” he stated in an interview

with the Under the Cosh podcast. “If you stay, you won’t be included,” he added to Nuno, “but we are going to bring

someone in; selling you will help fund bringing someone in, and we are going to go with him and one young guy.”

“It’s just business, nothing personal,” he remarked.

There are two possible outcomes because I was large and unattractive enough to go. I can be upset and feel bad, but I

simply kind of moved on and had fun with something else. My perspective on football changed slightly at that point

when I realized that there is absolutely no loyalty in the sport—it is ultimately just commerce.

Douglas paid £3 million to join Leeds, and he helped the team win the Championship in the 2019–20 season, which

led to promotion to the Premier League. Douglas has played for teams other than Wolves, including Lech Poznan,

Queen’s Park, and Dundee United. Additionally, he has only played for his home country of Scotland once, earning

his lone cap in 2018. He now plays in the Scottish Premiership for St. Johnstone.
