Norwich City plot move for Galatasaray's Elias Jelert

Norwich City might sign Galatasaray right-back Elias Jelert during the January transfer window.

According to Halk TV, the Canaries have approached the player’s agent over a prospective move to the Turkish Süper Lig club.

Several significant players left Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team during the summer transfer window, including Gabriel Sara, who joined Jelert’s side, Adam Idah, who returned to Celtic on a permanent basis, and Jonathan Rowe, who moved to Marseille.

Signings were necessary to replace these players, and the board, to be fair, supported Thorup’s efforts to bring in some new faces.

However, they may still have some dollars to spend in January due to sales made during the prior window.

Looking at their roster on paper, they have a lot of depth in some areas, and with that in mind, they may want to focus on quality over quantity during the winter window.

The Canaries may also be looking to keep their key players, such as Borja Sainz, who has 11 goals and two assists in 13 Championship matches.

However, they may go to the Turkish market to boost their defence.

Norwich City connected with Elias Jelert’s transfer.

According to Halk TV, Norwich has contacted Jelert’s agency, and Thorup appears to be keeping an eye on his fellow Dane.

The Canaries’ manager has already stated that he may turn to the Danish market and players ahead of the January window.

And Jelert might make the switch to Carrow Road in January, with the English side considering a deal for him.

This season, the right-back has made 12 competitive appearances, including in the Champions League qualifications, the Europa League, and Turkey’s first flight.

However, he has come off the bench in several of these games, and the 21-year-old is not getting as much playing time as he would like.

Jelert can also play on the left side, which might make him a significant asset for Norwich, who will need as much depth as possible to compete for promotion in the second half of the season.

Norwich City’s summer transaction with Galatasaray may pay rewards.

Norwich apparently behaved themselves effectively during the Sara discussions, as an agreement was reached.

That might provide them an edge if they try to acquire Jelert during the January window, as the two teams will be familiar with one other.

Given how regularly the full-back has featured this season, the Turkish club may be hesitant to let him leave, so the Sara deal might benefit the Canaries significantly.

On paper, both Kellen Fisher and Jack Stacey are available as right-back alternatives, therefore adding Jelert may appear unusual until one of the existing two first-teamers’ performances is considered poor.

The fact that he can play on both flanks is a bonus, and he might be a valuable addition to Carrow Road.
