Sonny Perkins might still force his way back into Leeds United’s plans following his performance on loan at Leyton Orient on Sunday.
The FA Cup was posted on X (3 November), displaying Perkins’ spectacular goal in Orient’s first-round match against Boreham Wood, which gave his team the lead until they triumphed on penalties later on.
The 20-year-old dodged one challenge, advanced past another, and then arrowed a 20-yard strike through the crowd into the top corner.
Perkins also assisted Daniel Agyei’s goal early in the second half, and despite being down by two late goals, Orient won 3-1 in a penalty shootout.

While Perkins’ strike will make headlines among Leyton Orient fans, the fact that his first goal for the League One club came against a non-league team in the FA Cup tells a lot about his current situation.
Perkins has left Elland Road for a second consecutive season-long loan move, and his United contract is slated to expire in 2025, making him unlikely to play in the white shirt again.
Last season’s loan move to Oxford in the same tier was cut short in January due to a lack of playing time at the Kassam Stadium, and Perkins has made only seven league appearances this season.
All seven of his Orient appearances have come from the bench, and while the Peacocks will be expecting for an improvement in his form, it is likely to be in preparation for his departure.
Perkins’ only road back to Elland Road appears to be a mass exodus of players following another unsuccessful promotion bid this season, but with Daniel Farke’s team now in the Championship’s top two, a cutting of links appears increasingly plausible.
