“I do think Ethan Erhahon will be sold”—Two Lincoln City transfer predictions issued
Lincoln City’s strong League One performance may attract interest from some players, therefore they will need to be ready for a rather active January transfer window.
After being among the best teams in the latter part of the previous season, with just two losses in their last 20 games across all competitions, Lincoln has continued to improve in the third division.
After just missing out on the playoffs the previous season, the Imps are now in the running, and clubs are intrigued in Lincoln’s bright future.
Among them is Ethan Erhahon, a defensive midfielder who is 23 years old.
Burnley and West Brom are among the Championship teams vying for the Scotsman’s services.
Lincoln will need to be ready for a hectic January of negotiating Erhahon’s future because the interest isn’t going to go away anytime soon.
Lincoln City: “Ethan Erhahon will be sold” January prediction made on midfielder’s future
Gary Hutchinson, a fan pundit for Lincoln City on FLW, was asked what two predictions he had for Lincoln City during the January transfer window.
“I believe there will be two events at Lincoln in January,” Gary said. In my view, Ethan Erhahon will undoubtedly be sold. More conservative clubs will be available in the January window, and I think he’s been intrigued all summer.
For example, all Championship clubs have zero points and zero games played in June, July, and August, but they still have a chance to finish the season well. Five, six, or seven clubs that are in danger of relegation will want to stay up come January, and they will be more inclined to invest more in their hiring.
As a result, clubs will find Erhahon to be a reasonably priced alternative, particularly if they want to strengthen their defensive midfield area.
Additionally, I anticipate that Saxon Earley will rejoin Plymouth Argyle. He hasn’t received a look-in within the squad, despite Wayne Rooney’s claims to the contrary.
“We really only brought in Early for some left-sided cover, and we didn’t know what would happen with Duffy’s gambling case, we didn’t know the state of Hackett’s injury, and we didn’t know how Ring would settle. He plays left wing-back, which isn’t ideal with Reeco Hackett returning, Eric Ring, Dom Jeffries, and Dylan Duffy all playing there.
“I think he was brought in as a ‘if’ but I genuinely think he will probably leave.”
Erhahon exit is expected, could be detrimental to Lincoln’s play-off bid
Lincoln has two perspectives on this transfer. With a high price anticipated to surpass the club record departure (owned by Harry Toffolo, £640,000), it is an excellent deal for the team. However, Lincoln’s strong play will be severely harmed by the young midfielder’s departure.
The time Michael Skubala spends with the Imps will make him very happy. Erhahon has been essential to the Lincoln manager’s team, but their strong play this season has earned them a shot at the playoffs.
Erhahon’s statistics so far in the 2024/25 League One season as per FotMob | |
---|---|
Appearances | 12 |
Pass accuracy | 81.8% |
Fouls won | 18 |
Duels won | 49 |
Interceptions | 23 |
After being low in the hierarchy, Saxon Earley won’t be a huge loss because everyone will be focused on how they can replace the 23-year-old.
In League One, Skubala has enjoyed his defensive skills, and if Lincoln can equal them, their hopes of making the playoffs may be in good shape.
Skubala is going to need to think a lot. Given that Lincoln wants a compensation for their starlet and that Erhahon’s contract expires in the summer of 2026, it appears that his departure is inevitable.
It’s a concerning possibility, but if they can play their cards correctly this January, things might turn out differently.
