BBC O’Rourke shares verdict on Rangers agreeing Graham Potter deal
According to insiders who spoke to Football Insider, Rangers will have a difficult time convincing Graham Potter to take over as manager if Philippe Clement is fired.
Senior writer Pete O’Rourke stated on the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that it would be extremely difficult for the Glasgow club to bring the 49-year-old to Ibrox, considering the club’s most recent financial data.
Rangers reported a record core revenue of £88.3 million in their most recent annual report, but they also disclosed an operational deficit of £17.2 million.
Potter is reluctant to accept the role because of the club’s dire financial circumstances and the requirement for a major roster revamp in order to compete with Celtic.
After being fired by Chelsea in 2023, Potter is apparently keen to return to manager, although he would rather remain in the Premier League.
While Philippe Clement waits, Graham Potter shows little interest in Rangers.
Rangers’ heartbreaking 2-1 loss at Pittodrie on Wednesday (October 30) dropped them nine points behind Aberdeen and Celtic in the Scottish Premier League.
Clement was offered a new four-year contract with the team after garnering significant support during the summer transfer window; his current contract is set to expire in June 2024.
