Southampton boss reveals what impressed him about Aribo during 1-0 win against

The brilliance of substitute Joe Aribo, who helped Southampton defeat Everton 1-0 at St Mary’s Stadium after a

fierce battle, impressed manager Russell Martin.

Tension and drama characterized the game as neither team was able to score or score.

Cameron Archer squandered a fantastic opportunity for Southampton after being released by Flynn Downes, and

Aaron Ramsdale was put to the test early on by Everton’s Jesper Lindstrøm.

Everton captain James Tarkowski was sent off for a vicious tackle on Archer as the match grew more intense.

Iliman Ndiaye scored from a short corner as the visitors gained momentum.

The home crowd’s excitement increased when Southampton replaced Ryan Manning with Tyler Dibling. Adam

Armstrong just missed Kyle Walker-Peters’ cross after Dibling’s daring run and deft delivery.

Beto, an Everton replacement, hit the crossbar with a devastating shot from point-blank range.

But five minutes from the end, Armstrong swept home Yukinari Sugawara’s cutback to seal the triumph.

After a protracted VAR review, Beto believed he had equalized in the last seconds, but his goal was narrowly

disallowed for offside. The drama didn’t end there.

Southampton was able to control possession and generate scoring opportunities because of Aribo’s dynamic

presence, which anchored their midfield.

His efforts were crucial in helping the Saints win their first Premier League game of the year.

Tribal Football said that the 38-year-old coach, who replaced Adam Lallana at halftime, praised the midfielder’s

impactful performance.

Russell Martin commented: “Joe Aribo had some tough moments today, but what he gives us out of possession and

his willingness to still take the ball is huge.”

With manager Russell Martin stressing the significance of the win in their battle against relegation, Southampton’s

triumph represents a significant turning point in their season.
