Southampton Boss reveals key players to be applauded after Everton’s Victory
Southampton’s return to the Premier League has been tough, but they picked up their first win of the campaign on Saturday with victory over Everton. Adam Armstrong’s winner was the only goal of the game. It was Southampton’s latest Premier League winning goal (84:33) since Charlie Austin (84:39) vs Arsenal in December 2018
It will have come as a huge relief for Russell Martin, who has now won his first Premier League match in charge at Southampton in his 10th such match as manager, ending a run of eight defeats and one draw.
Victory saw them end a 22-game winless run in the Premier League, with the win over Everton their first in the top-flight since March 2023 against Leicester.
Twenty-two without a win is a top-flight club record, eclipsing a stretch of 20 games without a win set between August and December 1969.
They’re just the sixth different club in Premier League history to go at least 20 consecutive games without winning. Four of those, including Saints, have gone beyond that mark.
The run is finally over, but this is the company they’re keeping…
