Brendan Rodgers has thrown some light on the status of Odin Thiago Holm.
Signed in the summer of 2023, the young Norwegian was in the Starting XI at the start of the season but appeared to fall behind Daniel Kelly by the turn of the year.
Holm came off the bench in three games in August, but the signing of Luke McCowan increased competition for midfield positions, with the former Valerenga player struggling to make the matchday squad and being left out of the 25 picked for Champions League duty.
Last month’s friendly against Sligo Rovers appeared to be an opportunity, but Holm did not participate, adding to the suspense when he missed the first team photo-call. When asked about injury issues at today’s media briefing, Rodgers shared details regarding the rarely seen Holm. We are at a very nice spot.
Everybody is fit and healthy. We only have one, Odin (Thiago Holm), who has been out with his calves for a little while. Aside from that, I’m relieved that we’ve made it through this period in quite good health. So far, everything is going well in terms of fitness.
The availability of Callum McGregor, Adam Idah, and Nicolas Kuhn adds skill and depth to the squad for Saturday’s match against Aberdeen.
Unless there is an epidemic of injuries, it is difficult to see how Holm can resuscitate his Celtic career, with a loan or permanent transfer in January appearing to be the most sensible option.
