With the January transfer window not too far away, many Championship sides will have to begin getting their affairs in order, with the potential for a busy winter at Norwich City.
This season, Johannes Hoff Thorup has witnessed a significant improvement in his Norwich team, as the Danes’ system is starting to come together.
The manager of the Canaries must now anticipate January, when a lot of things could happen, both positively and negatively.
Although they believe it will only be good news for Norwich, considering all the various circumstances that are now affecting the city, a number of eventualities could come to mind.
Norwich supporters may be excited about bringing in players because the summer transfer window was quite busy, but don’t discount the chance that more players will leave Carrow Road.
Here, we look at both the greatest and worst possible outcomes.
Worst: Borja Sainz leaves
Given that Borja Sainz has already established himself as one of the top players in the Championship this season, this won’t be a huge surprise to Norwich supporters.
In the first few months of the season, the Spaniard has been a revelation, scoring goals on a regular basis.
Sainz has contributed significantly to the Canaries’ campaign this year, and his outstanding play is certain to generate interest come January.
In September, Sainz was reportedly courted by Spanish team Athletic Bilbao in an attempt to return home.
Sainz is only one year into a three-year contract that was signed in the summer of 2023, which is fortunate for Thorup and Norwich supporters, and his exit will undoubtedly fetch a high price.
Although there isn’t anything official as of yet, Norwich supporters shouldn’t rule out anything about the 23-year-old’s future.
Best: Big money signing happens
Norwich did make some summertime expenditures, but they weren’t particularly extravagant; this is where Janaury could help.
Although Thorup made wise transfer decisions by acquiring players like Ante Crnac, Amankwah Forson, José Córdoba, Oscar Schwartau, and Ben Chrisene, their low asking prices may help the Canaries this winter.
Their summer net spend is favorably (estimated at £12.7 million), which may lead to the possibility of a big-money move.
With Adam Idah leaving and players like Jonathan Rowe and Gabriel Sara leaving throughout the summer window, Norwich will have plenty of money to spend if Sainz is added to this list.
No doubt it will take a lot to replace Sainz and potentially other positions needed for Thorup, but this is something to keep in mind, which could also be perceived to help Norwich’s promotion push with a big boost in January.
Best: Winning Karl Agnero race
The Canaries faithful will be hoping they’re linked with some big names, but their future needs to be taken into account.
Leeds United, Stoke City and Norwich are among a number of Premier League and Championship clubs tracking exciting Port Vale youngster Karl Agnero, according to TEAMTALK at the start of October.
The 16-year-old has put on some brilliant displays for Vale’s U18s, and although he may not be a signing for now, it’s certainly an exciting deal.
Thorup may be hoping to secure a deal for the youngster in January to ensure he’s a Canaries player as soon as possible.
No doubt, with the interest in the promising youngster, this will be challenging to get done in the winter.
