Nottingham Forest put Leicester City to the sword on Friday night to continue their climb up the Premier League table.
The Reds won 3-1 courtesy of two goals from Chris Wood and a first strike of the season for midfielder Ryan Yates.
Nuno Espirito Santo got one over on Steve Cooper despite the Forest head coach watching this one from the stands as he serves a touchline ban.
There were a number of top performers for Forest against Leicester, with Gary Neville finding praise for Elliot Anderson who operated in the number 10 role.
Alan Shearer felt that it was Ola Aina who deserved some praise. The Reds are planning on contract talks for the defender to extend his stay.
Now, one pundit has admitted – through gritted teeth – that Forest actually deserves some praise for the way the team has performed on the pitch so far this season.
What Gary Lineker said about Nottingham Forest after Leicester City are beaten
In fairness, Lineker is a master of his trade and it will be a very sad day when he calls time on his role as the presenter of Match of the Day.
As a Leicester fan he was clearly upset that his team couldn’t produce the goods on Friday and regardless of what they say, losing to Forest hurts them.
Three of the last four games between the two sides have ended in a win for Forest and Lineker was full of kind words after the latest victory.
He said on the Rest is Football podcast: “It pains me to do this but I have to give some credit to Nottingham Forest who beat my team Leicester City quite comfortably I thought on Friday night.
“They played really well, I mean they’re going so well and I don’t think any of us on this podcast envisaged them being this high in the table but yes, reluctant praise I’ve got to give to Nottingham Forest.”
Forest have to believe they can keep progressing
The Reds haven’t won three Premier League games on the trot since returning to the Premier League in 2022. However, a win over West Ham would see Forest achieve that feat on Saturday.
On current form, the Reds can’t be written off. Forest are playing a style that suits the players at Espirito Santo’s disposal and the players are in fine form.

The challenge now is for Forest to try and maintain this form for a little while longer and if that can be achieved, who knows what success could be on the horizon during 2024/25.
With Espirito Santo at the helm, there is a real sense that good things can come for Forest this season and it’s nice that Lineker wasn’t bitter about his team losing to the Reds at the weekend.
