‘They were really, really good’ – Guardiola claims he will learn from Martin

After praising Russell Martin’s team, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insisted that he would take lessons from the Saints manager.

Earling Haaland’s early goal gave Saints a 1-0 loss to Man City, while the crossbar prevented them an equaliser just before halftime.

Guardiola clarified that Southampton’s mindset and strategy made it challenging for his players to regain possession of the ball.

Despite Martin’s lack of coaching expertise, Guardiola replied when asked if he would learn from the veteran defender: “Definitely.

“I’m a big believer in the process of build-up. I prefer my players get the ball to the feet, not to the teeth.

“When this happens, it’s because they make an incredible process. We were not sloppy, we were not slack, and we were struggling to win the ball because they were really, really good.

“First and foremost, I’m a spectator; I want to see the opposition perform the activities that I enjoy with my squad, and they’re doing incredibly well, while we had trouble.

I simply offer a complement, and I have a good feeling that I will pick it up. They have made some progress, and their motivation is simple.

It’s not easy, but they move, clear a path to the striker, and position the forward guys outside to get you there.

“Look how tough it was to be at the bottom of the league right now, as demonstrated by the last two games against Wolves and Southampton.

“I believe that the statement that every side in the Premier League is capable of defeating every other team is accurate.

“I don’t have any complaints about my team, because when the opponent is good, you have to accept it.”

“People judge results, not intentions or what they want to do,” he added. Because he got promoted from the Championship, Martin was receiving amazing comments from the same individuals.

“He has the same values and is the same person. Given his youth, I have a good feeling that he will get better. I enjoy their performance as a spectator.

“Today, we ran really well. That bothers us. However, it was because they were good, not because we were bad.
