Cameron Carter-Vickers, a Celtic defender, has spoken about his time out injured and watching the Hoops play in the Champions League.

The USA international was upfront and honest about his physical and mental challenges as he watched the squad play without him. Carter-Vickers told Sky Sports:

“I missed a bit with an injury, but yeah, it was good to be back out there today, and hopefully, I can kick on now and keep going.”

“Clearly, it was difficult to witness, but I was proud of the boys. I think they gave an excellent performance. “I had the toe issue for about a month, but I was just playing with it. It was time to rest and get it right, so I did that.”

It must have been difficult to watch Celtic lose 7-1 to Borussia Dortmund in Germany then draw 2-2 at home against Aberdeen, whilst Carter-Vickers saw the Hoops keep their first Champions League clean sheet in 7 years against Atalanta midweek.

The fact that the US international played so long with a toe injury has both advantages and disadvantages.

The positive is that Carter-Vickers is prepared to play through ailments for the club, demonstrating his elite mentality; nevertheless, the bad is that Celtic failed to manage the injury appropriately, resulting in a setback and an extended stint out for the Celtic defender.

This is a concerning warning, and hopefully lessons can be learnt about how his minutes should be controlled in the future.
