Bernardo Silva believes Southampton deserve ‘a lot more’ points

Bernardo Silva, a midfielder for Manchester City, thinks the Saints, who have yet to win this season, should have “a lot more” points.

After a close 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Saturday, Southampton is now at the bottom of the Premier League standings with just one point.

After the match, Portuguese international Silva was quick to commend Saints and acknowledge that their style made it hard to regain possession of the ball.

Silva acknowledged that City squandered opportunities to end the match, but he also thought Southampton should be commended for their unwavering performance.

“We have a lot of respect for all the Premier League teams,” he told Sky Sports.

“Southampton deserve more points than they have, I have a lot of respect for them” 🗣️

“I believe Southampton should have a lot more points than they currently have after seeing some of their games.

We hold their style of play in high regard. They build up with the ball and apply great pressure. They are quite challenging to press because of their many excellent patterns.

“They find the middle ground if you go man to man.” Our defenders have speedy men up front, and it’s not easy.

“We are thrilled with the three points, even if it was a difficult game for us. We are now quite accustomed to teams defending deeply against us.

“They essentially always defend with a 5-4-1 line. We must exercise patience because that makes things more challenging.

“They deserve credit for what they did here today, but we had opportunities to make it three or four.”
