Leicester 1-3 Nottingham Forest: How the Foxes get lost in the Forest

Leicester City hosted Nottingham Forest, their East Midlands rivals, a week after winning their second game of the

season.

Three changes would be made by Steve Cooper from their victory against Southampton the previous week. Oliver

Skipp, Victor Kristiansen, and Bilal El Khannous made room for Harry Winks, Ricardo Pereira, and Abdul Fatawu as

they entered the starting lineup.

In an attempt to begin a fresh winning run, the away team brought to the King Power Stadium with the same roster

from their 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Nuno Espirito Santo would be watching from the press box as he served a three-match touchline ban. Assistant

coach Rui Pedro Silva would be in charge of the away side for this crucial game.

Caleb Okoli and Wout Faes would promptly handle several risky crosses into the box from Nottingham Forest to

begin the game.

Within the first ten minutes, the home team would have a few of their own chances. Early on, Facundo Buonanotte

emerged as a crucial player who gave the Forest defenders some trouble.

However, after some shoddy defending by Buonanotte and James Justin afforded Forest captain Ryan Yates enough

space to shoot into the bottom left corner, Forest would take the lead in the 16th minute.

But the Foxes would not be out for long, as the hero Jamie Vardy equalized in the 22nd minute by taking advantage

of the defense and getting his foot on a Wiks cross.

Mads Hermansen made a fantastic save to keep Dominguez from scoring as Forest attempted to immediately pull a

goal back after a corner came in and scurried across the goal.

After the goal, Leicester would have more control of the game because neither team could generate a significant

opportunity while attempting to maintain the highest possible tempo.

Pereira would receive the game’s first yellow card following a sliding tackle that recklessly gave the ball away on the

halfway line.

Callum Hudson-Odoi would take a long-range shot from the resulting free kick that was cleared as far as him, forcing

the Leicester goalkeeper to make a spectacular save.

.Before halftime, Alex Moreno received a yellow card for recklessly tackling Abdul Fatawu, a player he had found

difficult to stop.

Even though Stephy Mavididi nearly scored a spectacular goal right before halftime, neither team was able to

generate additional significant opportunities.

With both teams emerging from the halftime break unaltered, each had work to do in the second half if they were to

break the impasse.

In the opening move of the second half, Mavididi was booked after Craig Pawson pulled Moreno’s jersey and judged

it deserving of a card.

In the 55th minute, Hudson-Odoi nearly scored again after running into the box and having his effort blocked by the

post.Leicester would start to falter under the pressure, and an attempt by Elliott Anderson to score again would also

be dragged wide.

Midfielder Winks received Leicester’s third yellow card after tripping up Ola Aina in the Forest half.

With a third goal by Wood again in the 60th minute, the Reds would seize complete control of the match and

celebrate. Leicester promptly gave up as Wood headed it over Hermansen thanks to a shoddy header from Faes.

The Foxes would find it difficult to get much of the ball onto the opposing side of the field as Forest began to control

the possession.

As Cooper’s team attempted to rally, Leicester would make a double replacement in the 67th minute, with Mavididi

and Pereira leaving the field in place of Jordan Ayew and El Khannous.

Anderson and Moreno would go to the bench as Forest made a double substitution shortly after to maintain their

lead. Neco Williams and Morato would be brought on as their defensive substitutes.

Leicester was still having trouble creating chances, so Forest would gladly give the home team more of the ball and

set up more defensively.

In the 74th minute, Boubakary Soumare would replace Wilfrid Ndidi, who would leave for the home team. Hudson-

Odoi and Anthony Elanga would likewise be substituted for Jota and Ramon Sosa on the opposing team.

After another long-range attempt failed, Argentine midfielder Buonanotte was unable to make as much of an impact

as he did in the first half.

With two goals that dispersed the Foxes, Chris Wood had an outstanding game and deservedly won man-of-the-

match.

Erling Haaland is the only player higher than him, and he rose to the second-highest goal scorer in the Premier

League thus far this season.

He scored two of his three shots after effectively taking advantage of Wout Faes’ and Caleb Okoli’s errors and making

sure to take advantage of any opportunities presented to him.

The next game for Leicester City is a tough one at Old Trafford against a Manchester United team that has let them

down so far this season as they continue their EFL Cup campaign.

Nottingham Forest climbs to fifth place in the standings, just one point behind the top four.

They will play a struggling West Ham United team at home in their upcoming game; they have just won twice this

season.
