Leeds United will be looking to become the first side to beat Bristol City on home soil this season and former Whites defender Dom Matteo has shared his prediction.

The Whites have won each of their last four visits to Ashton Gate but face arguably the most difficult Bristol City side to beat in that period.

Both teams are unbeaten in their last six matches and Robins caretaker boss Chris Hogg is well aware of the threat Leeds possess.

That said, Leeds will be without several key men after the recent win over Watford, including Largie Ramazani who suffered ankle ligament damage.

Junior Firpo will also miss his first game of the season after picking up his fifth booking on Tuesday night, meaning one of Sam Byram or Isaac Schmidt will come in.

Matteo predicts Bristol City vs Leeds

Wilfried Gnonto was the matchwinner for Leeds in this fixture last season, in what was a huge turning point for his career at Elland Road.

With Ramazani out, Gnonto will again be the key for Leeds and whether he will be on the right or left will depend on who comes into the XI out of Manor Solomon and Dan James.

Matteo is expecting a big atmosphere from both sets of supporters in what is actually a sold out Ashton Gate crowd.

However, speaking in his pre-match preview with LUTV, Matteo is backing Leeds to overcome that and pick up a third successive victory.

He said: “Having played there myself at Bristol City it is a good atmosphere, they have a good amount of fans at the game that make a bit of noise, but let’s be honest about our fans, they are the best aren’t they.

“We’ll be making just as much noise and after having them two home wins, the fans will be excited to get there and enjoy the day. I genuinely feel with the form we’re in and the way we are playing, I fancy us very strongly to get the win.”

Jermaine Beckford backing Leeds to beat Bristol City

Matteo is not the only former Leeds player backing his old to come away victorious, but Jermaine Beckford too.

Beckford believes the match will be decided by the full-back positions on both sides, but in particular whether Bristol City can handle Leeds’ wingers.

He said: “It’s going to be a really interesting and intriguing game for the neutral. I think the game is going to be won or lost in the full-back position. Junior Firpo is out suspended for Leeds, so Sam Byram will come in.

“The full-backs for Bristol, I think it’s McCrorie and Tanner, they are going to have their hands full today up against Willy Gnonto and possibly Dan James or Solomon.

“I am not sure Ramazani’s ankle is going to be right. So I think that’s where the game is going to be win or lost. Really, really good game for the neutral, but I think I am going to stick with my guys. We are going to continue the away (record).”
