How Southampton help Erling Haaland to end goal drought

The Norwegian striker had scored 13 goals in 12 games for the defending Premier League winners prior to Saturday afternoon’s encounter with the recently promoted team. Prior to this, he had made 10 league appearances in crucial games, including a hat-trick against West Ham in August and a powerful goal against title-chasers Arsenal in September.

Nevertheless, Haaland has failed to score in his previous three City appearances, losing to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, and Newcastle United.

On Saturday, he eventually scored his first league goal since September, breaking Southampton’s chances of winning the first game of the season in the first five minutes.

Haland’s goal, in which he got his foot to the ball while battling Jan Bednarek, was an intriguing one. Matheus Nunes found the incredible striker, who put his effort past Aaron Ramsdale between the sticks, thanks to City’s ability to push the ball down the left side of the pitch.

Haaland scored his eleventh goal in the league and his fourteenth of the season. If the City striker maintains his strong goal-scoring performance this season, he might win the Golden Boot for the third time in a row.
