Paul Lambert is a well-known figure in English football manager, having worked at Norwich City, Aston Villa, Wolves, Blackburn, Stoke, and Ipswich Town, however he has been out of management since leaving Ipswich in 2021.

Lambert rose to prominence as a manager after leading Norwich City to two successive promotions and promotion to the Premier League in 2011. He later joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2012.

Livingston 2005-06
Wycombe Wanderers 2006-08
Colchester United 2008-09
Norwich City 2009-12
Aston Villa 2012-15
Blackburn Rovers 2015-16
Wolves 2016-17

However, his 16-year management tenure came to an end in 2021 after leaving Ipswich Town, who were in League One at the time, and despite being only 55, Lambert’s managerial career looks to be done, at least in the short term.

With this in mind, we’ve looked at how he’s performing since leaving Ipswich Town in 2021.

He has had employment offers in a range of jobs.

Lambert has been out of management since February 2021, after failing to assist Ipswich Town earn promotion from League One, and it appears that the former Scottish international is eager to seek options outside of management. In an exclusive interview with Football League World in December, he disclosed that he has declined management positions. He remarked, “Teams have asked me if I would consider becoming a coach or manager, and I have rejected. Teams have asked if I’d go in and help upstairs, which is quite intriguing to me.

“I’ve been doing it for 20 years; do I want to get back in? At the moment, I’m not sure since I’m interested in other things. I’m still involved with football, but I’m also interested in other things, which is fantastic.

Lambert was a superstar as a player at Celtic and Borussia Dortmund, winning the Champions League with the German team in 1997, and since retiring from coaching, he has served as an ambassador for both clubs.

Last year, he informed Football League World that Celtic named him an ambassador, and he visited Madrid and Rome. I had an excellent opportunity to meet the Pope. Football will never be able to compare; seeing him was the most honorable thing I could have done.

“I was in Indonesia playing for the Dortmund legends and then in Germany watching Dortmund play Gladbach.”

Lambert is clearly relishing the opportunity to represent his old teams without the burden of management, and he appears to be in no hurry to return to the dugout.

Who knows, the former Norwich manager may have a change of heart and desire to restart his management career at some point, but it does not appear to be anytime soon.

Paul Lambert has been traveling the world recently.
His connections to Borussia Dortmund are a major component.

Lambert’s LinkedIn profile highlights his recent travels, including representing Borussia Dortmund in Asia and meeting former Queensland Rugby League coach Sir Graham Lowe in Australia.

He also played for Dortmund in a legends’ game versus Celtic at Celtic Park, managing the Scottish team for half of the game before switching to the German side for the second half, demonstrating his popularity with both clubs.

He looks to spend a lot of time in Germany, both watching Dortmund and working for the club, and it’s evident that he enjoys life away from the bench.

There’s little question that he could still work as an EFL manager, but Lambert has been traveling the world and doing things he would not have had the opportunity to do as a manager, and he appears to be enjoying his new beginning.
