Bristol City manager Liam Manning breaks silence after tragic news
“In what has been the most difficult time of mine and my family’s life, it has been truly overwhelming the support we have received”
Manager Liam Manning acknowledged the “wider football family” and Bristol City supporters for their “truly
overwhelming support” in a heartfelt message published on Friday, October 25.
Following the untimely death of his infant son Theo, the management of the Robins thanked everyone in an
emotional message.
Liam stated: “The love we have got from Bristol City fans and the larger football community has been absolutely
astounding during the most trying moment of my family’s and my own lives. We are thrilled to have been able to
mention Theo’s name during the Middlesbrough game and the England Under-21s games at Ashton Gate. The
response has greatly impacted us.
“I am privileged to work with such wonderful people, and the Lansdowns, Brian Tinnion, Chris Hogg, and the staff
and players have been amazing. Last but not least, life is incredibly valuable; cherish the moments, support one
another at difficult times, and, above all, make the most of our remaining time.
Following the untimely death of his infant son earlier this month, the Bristol City manager took a leave of absence.
Liam and his wife Fran, who already have another son named Isaac, recently welcomed Theo John Manning into the world.
On October 14, the club announced that it was “deeply saddened” to learn of infant Theo’s death. “We know that
Bristol City’s supporters and the wider football family will share their condolences and deepest sympathy with Liam,
his wife Fran, and his son Isaac during this difficult period,” continued a club statement at the time.
Chris Hogg will take over all football-related responsibilities during Liam’s leave. Our request is that Liam and his
family’s privacy be maintained throughout this period.
In a recent communication, Liam Manning confirmed that he will return to Ashton Gate for today’s (Saturday,
October 26) game against Leeds United. During this time, a massive display has been planned in the Dolman and
South Stands to honour infant Theo and provide further support for the Manning family.
