Celtic on track to exceed €50m in Champions League as co-efficient improves
Celtic need two more wins
Celtic now sits 20th in the new Champions League format after a surprising 0-0 draw with Atalanta in Bergamo.
If Celtic wins two more of their next five games against RB Leipzig, Club Brugge, Dinamo Zagreb, BSC Young Boys, or Aston Villa, Brendan Rodgers’ team will advance to the Champions League play-off round and have a chance to compete in the Last 16.
Scotland’s co-efficient boost
Meanwhile, Scotland’s coefficient has increased by 0.2 points as a result of the tie with Gian Piero Gasperini’s team. The Hoops have earned 1.8 points overall for their country after defeating Slovan Bratislava, earning a spot in the Champions League straight out of the gate, and now earning a respectable point in Italy. In addition to earning 0.4 points for winning the first game and 0.2 points for drawing at Gewiss Stadium, Celtic also won a bonus point for qualifying for the Champions League.
Celtic’s revenues soar
Interestingly, €700,000 was added to the €25+ million Celtic had already earned from ticket sales before the start of this season’s Champions League campaign. Even if the two other Scottish clubs won this week in Europe, the Hoops earned €300,000 more than Hearts and €250,000 more than the Rangers despite a stalemate.
A European Group stage first for Scottish football
In one outstanding Scottish week without a loss, the Rangers’ 4-0 victory against Romanian team FSCB and Hearts’ stunning victory over Cypriot team Omonia Nicosia have raised Scotland’s point total from 3.4 to 4.4.
It’s interesting to note that Scottish clubs recorded three clean sheets in a group format for the first time on matchday three of the European calendar.
As a result, Scotland has risen in the coefficient table over Israel, who only have one team competing in Europe. Scotland, in 16th place, is only 0.3 points behind Greece in 13th place, while Austria is 1.4 points ahead in 12th. Considering how difficult Sturm Graz and RB Salzburg’s Champions League schedules are, finishing in 12th place should still be attainable.
Weeks without a loss are quite uncommon.Scotland’s coefficient’s outstanding few days was undoubtedly enhanced by Celtic’s tenacious performance against the Europa League winners.
