According to a recent source, a club’s new signing is considering a move to Leeds United, which might result in the termination of his contract.

Leeds boost their ranks with Guilavogui’s acquisition.

Daniel Farke’s squad has had a solid start to the Championship season, with a recent 2-1 win over Watford adding to their outstanding record.

With their third win in five games, Leeds moved up to third position in the Championship, equal with Burnley and only three points behind early leaders Sunderland. However, both Leeds and Burnley have lost fewer games than Sunderland.

Leeds are ready to strengthen in the coming weeks after announcing the acquisition of experienced free agent Josuha Guilavogui, who joined on a contract until the end of the season after being released by Mainz at the end of the 2023/24 season.

His arrival comes three weeks after injuries sidelined both Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev for the remainder of 2024, leaving just Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka as acknowledged senior alternatives in the Elland Road engine room.

Guilavogui can also play centre-back, giving Farke more choices as the matches in England’s second tier mount up. Though the 34-year-old is yet to make his debut for the club, it is believed that he will be able to adjust quickly and gradually integrate into Championship play.

Ipswich believe their latest recruit wants to transfer to Leeds.

Football Insider reports that Ipswich Town are increasingly dissatisfied with Kalvin Phillips, who joined from Manchester City only months ago. The England international joined Manchester City on a one-year loan contract after failing to impress at the club after signing a £150,000 per week agreement in 2022 from Leeds United.

Phillips has started five of Ipswich’s first eight Premier League games, but has only played 90 minutes once and has failed to impress in Suffolk. Reports claim Ipswich management are not satisfied with his physical condition.

This comes after a dismal loan spell at West Ham United, when David Moyes had to defend him multiple times.

“Kalvin Phillips is a really good player, an international player, an excellent footballer and I do believe we can still make something out of the time we’ve got left with him here” , he commented.

“What he needs is support behind him, people to help him, and we’re going to stand with him, help him as much as we possibly can.”

According to this source, key people at Portman Road believe his “head is still at Leeds” and that he wants to return to Yorkshire and his childhood club, which might lead them to “terminate” the loan contract from Manchester City in January.

It is stated that they have been “amazed” by Phillips’ lack of mobility and running strength” and deem the former England player “nowhere near the standard of a quality Premier League footballer” as things stand.

Of course, a return to Manchester City does not guarantee Phillips will be free to transfer to Leeds, as his high salary is likely to be a stumbling barrier, but if Pep Guardiola is keen to unload the 28-year-old, a return to Elland Road is a possibility.
