Jamie Carragher’s brilliant reaction to Aston Villa sitting top of the Champions League table
Aston Villa just continue to go from strength to strength under Unai Emery.
On October 24, two years have passed since Aston Villa hired Emery as manager in the wake of Steven Gerrard’s disastrous tenure.
If the Champions League table has encapsulated Emery’s reign in the Midlands thus far, you need look no farther.
At the top of the tree aren’t the champions Real Madrid, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, or even the French champions PSG.
But Aston Villa are top of the Champions League table after winning three games out of three and not conceding a goal – Liverpool are the only side to do the same.
Villa’s 2-0 win over Bologna on Tuesday night was another example of how this train is moving forward and heading towards one direction only.
After returning to Europe’s elite competition last season, many thought the team would probably wobble or stumble somewhere, but so far, it has been smooth sailing.

Aston Villa’s remaining Champions League fixtures
With three Champions League games remaining and Villa’s notable victory against Bayern Munich, there is still plenty to be done.
They will undoubtedly go to the playoffs; now, they must focus on finishing in the top eight and simplifying their own lives.Prior to Douglas Luiz’s return with his Juventus team on November 27, Villa will have to travel as they take on Club Brugge at the beginning of November.
RB Leipzig now has zero points and will host Villa on December 10 for game week six. Their final away trip is against Monaco on January 21.
Game eight of this league phase will then take place on January 29 when Aston Villa and Celtic square off in the Battle of Britain.
