“Really Motivated” – Michael Skubala Reflects on FA Cup Draw In Stacey West Exclusive

Today has been a good day. Some of the Stacey West team attended training this morning before sharing lunch with

Michael Skubala.

After that, we had unique access to our head coach, which will be included in this week’s show. That is set to drop tomorrow evening, but

first, how about a little taster?

The Imps drew Chesham United in the FA Cup first round last night, which was exactly what we wanted. It epitomizes the mystique of the

cup, and as the competition’s fourth-placed squad, we’re the big boys making The Generals’ journey worthwhile. That is not arrogant, but

as the draw came through, the phrase ‘the magic of the cup’ sprang to mind.

They were also the first words Michael said when we asked for his thoughts on the draw.

“I think it’s the magic of the FA Cup,” Michael stated. “I love the FA Cup. I enjoy all of the cups, but the FA Cup stands out for its magic.

It’s the beauty of it. I just learned that a local team had made it to the FA Cup for the first time.

“The excitement for a grassroots or lower-league squad—any team, really—is enormous. Chesham’s team will be highly driven to succeed.

“I enjoy the FA Cup, and we should take it seriously. We want to win and advance to the latter stages. “It’s not a league game, but we want

to win and advance as far as possible.”

This is the competition in which City participates that offers the most significant rewards. Our FA Cup run in 2016/17 mostly paid for the

training ground we were fortunate to visit, but it is a place that has grown so rapidly that expansion is undoubtedly on the horizon. That

would be lot easier with another massive cup run behind us.

However, just because we drew a team that people had to Google after they came out of the hat does not guarantee automatic

advancement. In fact, the opposite is probably true: traveling to their stadium and trying to obtain a result could be a huge task, as we

witnessed against Chippenham a few years ago. Michael also agrees with this.

“This could be a difficulty for us. “These games can be tricky, like banana skins,” Michael continued. “We will prepare like we always do.

We want to go as far as possible, and preparing for this type of game might be challenging.

“The video data may not be as readily available, but we can still gather enough information. We can send scouts, or I can go monitor them

myself if we have some free time. We’ll prepare the same manner for a league match, the FA Cup, or even a friendly.”

Michael went on to highlight the importance of game preparation. That, as well as views on Jovon, a conversation about training, and

some insight into what he thinks went well in the last few matches and where he wants to improve. However, you will have to wait until

the podcast, which is scheduled to be released (at the latest) on Thursday morning.
