No chance club can get €30m-35m from Newcastle United for transfer – Won’t even get close

Newcastle United were connected with a summer transfer bid for AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw.

The transfer never went through, but the Italian press insisted that a cost of more than €25 million may persuade the Rossoneri to sell another player to Newcastle.

The Magpies were the’most interested’ club in the German, and it now appears that meeting Milan’s asking price may be akin to hitting a moving target.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, while the former Italian champions demanded between €30 million and €35 million in the summer, any club, including Newcastle, would find it impossible to pay that price now.

They are at risk of earning substantially less than that sum, since Thiaw has plummeted down the club’s centre-back pecking order.

He has ‘disappeared from the radar’ following a disappointing performance against Torino and an injury, causing his overall valuation and asking price in Milan’s eyes to plummet dramatically.

Of course, the €30-35 million range is considerably higher than Newcastle United’s outlandish promises from the summer, and could be an attempt to make €20-25 million appear reasonable.
