Michael Rose explains ‘difficult’ Stoke City change he’s still getting used to

For the third time during his brief tenure with the Potters, Stoke City defender Michael Rose is having to get used to

a new coach and a new style of play.

Michael Rose has never experienced a manager change before. The centre half for Stoke City arrived in the summer

of 2023, but after just 15 months with the team, he is already under the direction of his third permanent manager.

Scot Rose began his career with boyhood club Aberdeen, who worked for eight years – including the entirety of Rose’s

short senior career at Pittodrie – under Derek McInnes. Next came a move to Ayr United, where Rose – across three

separate seasons – played for manager Ian McCall.

More recently, Rose spent her first four years in England as a manager of Coventry City, under the direction of Mark
Robins, who ranks third among Football League managers in terms of tenure, since 2017. Working under Steven
Schumacher, Alex Neil, and now Narcis Pelach has obviously been a bit of a shock to his system, which has only
known consistency in that regard.
After an injury-plagued start to the season, the 29-year-old has returned to the squad under Pelach, and he is now
fully committed to giving the Spaniard everything he has.
“It’s been a little bit difficult for me,” Rose stated. “Until I arrived here, I had never encountered that in my
professional life. I thought everything was a little weird, especially when Alex Neil left and Schumacher joined the
team the previous season. My past seized control, and I handled it. It is also impossible to overthink things; all you
can do is listen to the new manager, find out what he wants, and strive to fulfil his every request.

“As players, you really can’t focus on anything else; that’s all you can do. That is a task for the club’s top authorities.

As players, our responsibility is to win football games on the weekends, so we’ll just pay attention to that individual

and do our best.”
