People have been warned to ‘be prepared’

Flood warnings have been issued across Devon as heavy rain fell this morning (Wednesday, October 16). The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain, which is valid until noon.

Forecasters have warned of heavy rain, which may cause flooding in some regions. The Environment Agency (EA) has issued seven “Be Prepared” flood alerts in Devon.

Alerts have been issued for the Rivers Axe, Otter, and Sid, as well as the Exmouth area, the Rivers Clyst and Culm and their tributaries, the Exmoor Rivers, the River Teign area, the River Yealm, the River Plym, and Tory Brook. Residents have been cautioned that “flooding is possible” in their areas.

Main road near Tiverton partially blocked in both directions due to fallen tree

The traffic monitoring service Inrix has now reported on the fallen tree that is partially blocking a route near Tiverton.

The site reported the incident just after 3.10pm, writing: “A396 Exeter Road in both directions partially blocked, delays due to a fallen tree between Ashley turning (Tiverton) and Seven Crosses turn-off (Bickleigh).”

Road leading on to A30 becoming ‘impassable’ due to flooding

The A396 at Ashley is currently blocked by a fallen tree, please use alternative route.

B3177 Alfington Road flooded under the A30 and becoming impassable. Please find an alternative route and add extra time for your journey.SW
