Ipswich Town: Omari Hutchinson scored maiden goal in England U21 cameo

Omari Hutchinson, an Ipswich Town attacker, scored and assisted twice for England’s Under-21 team in his second cap.

The former Chelsea player was named on the bench for the Young Lions’ last Euro U21 qualifier against Azerbaijan at Ashton Gate. Charlie Cresswell, Callum Doyle, and James McAtee scored to give them a commanding advantage, and Hutchinson replaced Jamie Gittens on the hour.

Although that does not count as an official assist, his pass to Elliot Anderson for the fifth will, as he picked out the Nottingham Forest midfielder with a weighted cross that fell directly to his feet and allowed him to fire home from inside the box.

He continued by looping a lofted ball towards Dane Scarlett. Goalkeeper Khayal Farzullayev got his hands on it, but it bounced up and over him, allowing the former Town loanee to score into an open goal.

Hutchinson capped up an outstanding cameo with his first goal at the level. Scarlett’s fast feet enabled him to dance past Azerbaijan’s defenders.

Ben Futcher’s squad won Group F, while Ukraine lost to Serbia. Nonetheless, both teams have qualified for next summer’s championship in Slovakia.

Town striker Liam Delap, who started for England in a 2-1 win against Ukraine last week, was suspended for tonight’s game in Bristol due to excessive yellow cards.
