“Everything you want to hear” – West Brom: Delight emerges at Carlos Corberan comments

The ‘Terrace Talk’ series from Football League World features the views of our FLW Fan Pundits on a variety of topics, including teams, players, managers, potential signings, breaking news, and more.

This week, Carlos Corberan made it apparent that he is willing to commit to West Bromwich Albion for the foreseeable future. The Spaniard is eager to remain at the Hawthorns for many years to come.

Despite reports from the Sunday Mirror that Southampton, a Premier League team, was interested in hiring him over the weekend, the Albion manager has publicly stated that he would be “very happy” to stay longer in the Black Country in an interview with the Birmingham Mail.

I can only tell you that making a career in this club will be one thing that would make me happy – to extend my career in this club. It would make me very, very happy.

All those connected to the Baggies can only find great satisfaction in that, as the former Huddersfield Town manager is still pushing the team to play in the Premier League right now.

In light of this, we chatted with Callum Burgess, a resident of Football League World, on the most recent update from the manager and his optimism that the 41-year-old will be around for the long run.

Relationship between Carlos Corberan and Shilen Patel credited with current West Brom revival

After taking over the first team operations at the Hawthorns just under two years ago, Corberan saw the football team completely come around from near the bottom of the second division when he took over.

Since then, the Baggies have made significant progress toward the Premier League. However, they were defeated by Leeds United in the Championship playoff finals the previous season, and they are now off to a fast start this year.

Because of this, there has been a lot of conjecture about the Spaniard’s future with the team. If Albion keeps up the winning style of football that their coach has instituted, Saints’ interest in him may be a harbinger of things to come.

Although there might be temptations farther up the pyramid, Burgess thinks Corberan’s stable relationship with owner Shilen Patel plays a significant role in the former’s dedication to the cause, since the new owner has been winning over the fan base since taking over in February 2024.

When asked about his thoughts on Corberan’s status at the club following his latest comments, the Albion fan said: “As a supporter it is everything you want to hear from your manager at this point in time, when you know that he is quite easily capable of going on to the Premier League and getting a better job there.

“However, with Shilen Patel, we have emerged from the shadows of Guochuan Lai’s reign, and the future looks bright with his arrival. It is evident how much the project has inspired Carlos Corberan to believe that West Brom is the right team for him.”

“You can tell that Shilen Patel and Guochuan Lai are really aligned now that they own the club, but there was a fighting mentality when Guochuan Lai owned it.”
The West Bromwich Albion fan base’s faith is restored by Shilen Patel and Carlos Corberan.

It might be difficult to recall the negative sentiment that surrounded Albion in October 2022, when Steve Bruce presided over a dark period in the team’s history that left them pinned at the bottom of the standings due to a hangover from relegation.

Since then, though, Patel’s [pictured] ownership has helped restore the relationship between the football team and its supporters, as evidenced by Corberan’s amazing work with the talent at his disposal and the Hawthorns’ palpable excitement on match days.

Burgess can only mirror the recent feelings of Albion supporters, with optimism and faith restored in those in the stands, given the news that their boss is as dedicated to the cause as ever.

The nicest thing about the two of them right now, he went on, is that fans genuinely look forward to Shilen Patel’s press appearances, remarks, and correspondence.

“You anticipate hearing Carlos Corberan’s remarks at the upcoming press conference, and we have experienced periods when things seem a little tedious under previous managers.

“We are excited for the future because it is wonderful to see how committed Carlos Corberan is, especially considering that before we were hearing Steve Bruce running around trying to make up a load of nonsense every week.”
