Norwich City started work on deal for in-form summer signing ‘as early as February

Norwich City head of recruitment Lee Dunn has said work on the deal to sign Callum Doyle started ‘as early as February’.

There have been a lot of changes made at Norwich City, both on and off the pitch.

Life under the new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup has been thrilling so far. The Canaries are now enjoying a winning streak, having collected 10 of a possible 12 points. Callum Doyle, a summer loan addition, has played a major factor in this early success.

Doyle is a Manchester City loanee at Carrow Road. After his part in Leicester City’s promotion, many may have assumed a move up was in order, but the Norfolk team managed to pull off the stunning upset.

Lee Dunn, the head of recruitment for Norwich City, has now talked to the Pink Un about the team’s signing procedure for the new player.

“I spoke with his delegates in March after speaking with them possibly as early as February. And that continued till the end of the previous season.

After it became evident that we needed to find a player with this profile for our game model, there was a very rigorous period of meeting and pitching to Manchester City, as the character is ultimately a Manchester City player.

“We had to explain to them how Johannes would fit in, how we would help him develop, and how he would play.

Likewise, with Callum, you have the chance to meet the player at the appropriate time. Callum came to the training facility, and we gave him our presentation. Of course, Johannes is the most crucial person for him to see. After that, everything is just about closing the deal.

Promotions on his CV

Norwich City, now ranked seventh, is in a respectable position and will be aiming for a promotion this season. Doyle is growing accustomed to receiving promotions in his professional life.

Even though he is still young, the 21-year-old has received promotions before. He has received two promotions in the last three seasons: the first came with Sunderland to the Championship in 2022, and the second came with Leicester City to win the Championship title the previous season.norwich city, Norwich City started work on deal for in-form summer signing ‘as early as February’

Doyle has not been brought in for his experience but it is useful for the Canaries to have this campaign.

A big week ahead

When Norwich City returns from their international break, they want to continue where they left off.

Thorup’s team plays its third game of the week at home against Middlesbrough after returning to action away at Stoke City and travelling to Preston North End in the middle of the week.

The Canaries, who won their final game before the break 4-0 against Hull City, will be brimming with confidence as they attempt to maintain their play-off push.
