Nils Koppen moots ‘Brave’ Rangers sale at Ibrox already

Nils Koppen moots ‘Brave’ Rangers sale at Ibrox already.

Nils Koopen has stated that Rangers should make the “brave” decision to trade Jefte if they receive a reasonable offer and then rely on themselves to find a successor.

Jefte only joined Rangers in June 2024, but he has already appeared in five of the club’s seven league games, including many standout performances.

Rangers’ director of football, Koppen, detailed how the team should handle situations involving key players.

In an interview with Rangers Review (15 October), Koppen stated that if a player like Jefte is performing well and receives a good offer, they should sell him and be confident in their ability to find a replacement.

Rangers need to improve, not decline.

Rangers is now third in the Scottish Premiership, five points behind Aberdeen and Celtic after playing the same number of games.

While the time will come to sell players, the Gers cannot afford to do so while their performance levels are currently below expectations.

Jefte has been an important player for the Gers this season, averaging a match rating of 7.24 according to FotMob. Selling him could theoretically look good financially, but it would also disrupt any positives on the pitch.

Replacing players is also easier said than done; while it is entirely feasible that Ranges could sell Jefte and replace him with a fraction of the money while maintaining quality, it is also entirely possible that this would not be the case, and it is a very narrow line to walk.

Rangers must pick up the pace this season or risk falling farther behind in their quest for their first title since 2021.
