Jeanie Buss offers hope for a future parade by leaving the door open for a possible celebration of the 2020 Lakers championship.
Lakers owner Jeanie Buss hinted at the prospect of a future celebration for the 2020 title squad during a recent visit on the ‘Above The Rim’ podcast, which features former Lakers star Dwight Howard. Buss responded to Howard, who
had a significant role in the Lakers’ 2020 championship run, when he asked if the team would ever be able to relive the parade they missed because of the COVID-19 pandemic:
“All right, so don’t rule anything out. Perhaps something will make sense at some point. I will therefore never completely close the door. As if things will make sense.
Because of their success on the court as well as the extraordinary conditions they encountered off it, the 2020 Lakers were maybe one of the most unusual NBA championship teams in recent memory. After the season was put on hold for months because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the squad won the NBA Bubble championship in Orlando, Florida.
Despite winning their 17th title, which tied them with the Boston Celtics for the most in league history, the Lakers did not participate in the customary victory parade that follows a championship.
Large public meetings were prohibited at the time, and the deadly effects of the pandemic were being felt all across the world. Strict regulations, especially in Los Angeles, prevented the Lakers from holding the kind of grand
procession that had been associated with their prior titles. The Lakers never got the full celebration they deserved, and their players, staff, and supporters were forced to celebrate the win mostly virtually.
