Chesham United: All You Need To Know

The Imps were handed an away draw in the FA Cup, and for the third season in four, it is against one of the non-league

sides still in the competition.

Narrow victories against Bowers & Pitsea and Chippenham indicate that this will be no easy task as we travel to Buckinghamshire to face

National League South side Chesham United. The Generals, sponsored by Channel Four’s Taskmaster, are presently 14th in their division,

having won four games, drawn two, and lost four. One word of warning: that is higher than Chippenham Town.

They play at the Meadow, a 5,000-capacity stadium with 284 seats, so we should receive approximately 750 tickets, or 15%. They have

joint managers James Duncan and Michael Murray, and they wear claret and blue shirts, as Emley did in 1998. It’s becoming more

ominous by the second!

They have already played four FA Cup games this season. They defeated Cray Valley in the second qualifying round, then drew 0-0 with

Bishop’s Cleeve before winning 4-0 on replay. Their victory over National League side Yeovil this weekend advanced them to the first

round, but it should also please Imps fans; Yeovil’s manager, Mark Cooper, was furious. That should be placed under ‘things you enjoy

seeing’.

They have some FA Cup experience; in 2016/17, they were defeated 2-1 by Peterborough, but in 2014/15, they beat Bristol Rovers in the

first round before falling to Bradford City. They’ve even advanced to the third round before: in 1979-80, they defeated Minehead 2-1 in the

first round and Merthyr Tydfil 3-1 in a second round replay before falling 2-0 at home to Cambridge United in the third round.

Chesham’s squad features former Bracknell winger Joe Grant, who has six goals this season, and Boreham Wood’s Connor Stevens, who

played in the FA Cup against Bournemouth and Everton. He has a huge killing pedigree.

A handful of former Imps have worn the Generals’ claret, most notably Bruno Andrade, who appeared six times for them last season.

Dean Chandler, Bruce Grobbelaar, and (obviously) Jefferson Louis have all appeared for both clubs.

The match will take place during the first weekend of November.
