Bevan French celebrates Wigan Warriors’ 2024 Super League Grand Final triumph against Hull KR

Unsurprisingly, Bevan French’s heroics in the Super League Grand Final have sparked speculation in Australia regarding the Wigan Warriors star’s potential return to the NRL.

In the Warriors’ victory at Old Trafford on Saturday night, French was without a doubt the standout player. His incredible first-half try proved to be the game-winning goal as Matt Peet’s team won an unprecedented quadruple.

French has likely established himself as one of the best foreign players the Super League has ever seen after winning man of the match in this year’s Challenge Cup final.

And it seems that people are talking about his adventures with Wigan. French’s status is stronger than ever, so host Andrew Voss of Australia’s Breakfast With Vossy and Brandy show asked if his agent should try to get him a deal there.

Would you stay where you are King, or would you urge Bevan French to return to the NRL so I can get you a decent deal? Voss asked. In the Super League, he is also a king.

French’s best course of action, according to co-host Greg Alexander, would be to remain in the Super League for the next two seasons at the very least, with a view toward returning home when the next team is inducted into the NRL in 2027.

“I think I’d wait until the new franchise in 2027,” he stated. You can then jump in, so I would wait for that. I know he’s 28 now, so if his form doesn’t change, he might as well stay till his manager finds him a better opportunity to return home. I’m not sure if it is possible.

However, because French is under contract with the Warriors until at least the end of the 2028 season, any NRL team that wants to sign him at that time would still need to demand a high price.

However, it’s evident that French’s performances are being acknowledged in Australia.
