Three Cochrane players are representing Alberta in the week-long national box lacrosse championship that kicks off today in Regina.

For Kaylee McKay, 20, it’s a chance to help defend Alberta’s first ever gold medal at nationals with the province’s U22 female team. Alberta defeated Ontario for gold at last year’s nationals. Besides being a veteran national level lacrosse player, she’s well known for playing nets for the Cochrane Chaos junior hockey team.

Her younger sister Reese McKay, also a goalie, is making her debut on Alberta’s U17 team as an underage player in her first national championships. Just 14, her skill level jumped her to a higher level.

Hannah Dick is an impressing rising star with the U17 team. With only three years of lacrosse under her belt, she’s already playing at the national level. Her athleticism both on and off the floor is noted in all the sports she plays and has earned her an ‘A’ on her jersey.

The U22 team plays Saskatchewan in their opening game, and the U17’s play PEI.
