For Celtic, the opening part of the 2024–25 season could not have gone much better.
Eleven games, thirty-six goals, ten wins, and one single defeat—against Borussia Dortmund, the Champions League finalists from the previous season—have been recorded.
Following a plethora of summer additions who are directly vying for starting eleven slots, Brendan Rodgers has his squad healthy, on the upswing, and prepared to advance even farther. For a few of them, the Celtic duty is still new to them.
Rangers, on the other hand, have stagnated on the pitch while lurching from crisis to crisis off it. After losing the derby, coming out of the European qualifiers, and now behind the Scottish Premiership league table by five points.
Many of its fans are dissatisfied with the direction Rangers-leaning commentators like Kris Boyd feel the team is going, as is manager Philippe Clement.
The former Ibrox striker acknowledged in a recent media appearance that there is a noticeable gap between the Bhoys and their opponents at the moment.
Kris Boyd’s verdict on Celtic strength compared to Rangers
Boyd was discussing the current season with Falkirk manager John McGlynn and hosts Gordon Duncan and Sam North on The Warm-Up YouTube show.
The analyst commented, “Domestically, when you look at Celtic, they are by far the best team in the league,” in reference to the squad’s dominant start to the season.
“It also makes a big difference from the background. There have been instances in the past where teams have had strong teams on the pitch, but off the pitch, there may be ongoing issues that could soon explode and then spill over onto the play.
“I believe Celtic are playing really well right now, both on and off the pitch. Examine the acts that they have presented. Even though they didn’t play their best last weekend (against Ross County), they still go to the bench to generate enthusiasm that energises them and helps them win.
Boyd then expressed his unhappiness with what’s happening at his previous club, saying he might be “ranting until this time next week,” in response to a question regarding Rangers.
After gathering his thoughts, he expressed dissatisfaction with what he perceived as Celtic’s current opponents.
“Listen, it’s difficult for me to sit here and say, ‘It’s a project,’ but I don’t think Rangers Football Club should ever be a project,” Boyd stated. That is my personal opinion. That was a winning machine when I was a child. Celtic deserves praise for the current changes that have occurred.
When asked how stable Celtic’s roster is week to week in comparison to Clement’s team, Boyd said, “There were a lot of changes over the summer.” Rangers have struggled with this for a number of years.
“Neither the new players nor the recruitment strategy, in my opinion, have improved the starting eleven overall.
“On the other hand, Arne Engels, who Celtic signed, plays right away for the team. Reo Hatate is still a member of the team even after you go back to him.
