Sky Sports commentator Don Goodman has suggested that Reading FC supporters ‘deserve’ to know why the takeover with Rob Couhig failed.

Don Goodman, Sky Sports’ EFL specialist, told Grosvenor Sport that Reading supporters want to know why the Rob Couhig takeover fell through.

“It almost feels like they’re back at square one; they’ll suffer for months to come.

“The players and management have been excellent in the face of adversity; but, Ruben Selles will want to go if this continues.

“Reading supporters want to know why the Rob Couhig takeover fell through, and Ruben Selles will want to leave if this continues.

“I just feel for the players, coaches, staff, and, most importantly, the fans. They have been put through the wringer. Hope destroys you.

“Everyone hoped that this takeover proposal would be straightforward and that Rob Couhig would steer the club ahead without the worry of points penalty or transfer embargoes. We expected him to give the club with financial security and eliminate the need for further demonstrations, but that hasn’t happened.”

The club said last week that it had gone into exclusivity with a new part after Couhig’s proposal to acquire the club from Dai Yongge fell through last month.

Goodman went on to say, “The fans are disappointed because there is no explanation for why it fell through. Everyone involved with that football club wants to know what the issue was with the takeover and why it fell through after being approved by the EFL. Who is to blame? Who moved the goalposts? That is the information the supporters deserve after everything they have been through.

“It’s almost like they’ve started from scratch. Takeovers may take months to complete, so they may have to wait a little longer. I am devastated for everyone involved with Reading.

“The players and management have performed admirably in the face of adversity. However, this cannot continue for much longer without having a severe influence on the players and Ruben Selles. If this continues, they’ll want out, which is a pity.
