Birmingham City will soon add four players to their strongest match-day squad.

Despite their explosive start to the League One season, Birmingham City has faced injury problems this year.

The first two months of the League One season have shown just how strong Birmingham City’s team is.

Because of the strength of their team, the Blues have maintained results while coping with injuries from the beginning. Chris Davies can select from a squad of twenty-five senior players when they are all fit.

Due to an ankle injury, captain Krystian Bielik will be out of action “for a few weeks at the very least,” which has been difficult for Davies to deal with. Meanwhile, the club’s TBRx-branded treatment facility is closing.

Dion Sanderson made his comeback against Shrewsbury in the middle of the week, and right-back Ethan Laird is the next in line to return. Laird is expected to recover from his ankle injury in the upcoming weeks. This week, he signed a contract extension that would last until 2028.

The Blues still have Luke Harris and Lee Buchanan out with injuries in addition to Bielik and Laird. Harris has been sidelined for six weeks due to an ankle problem, and Buchanan made a brief comeback before he passed away from another calf ailment.

Given their stature as key players, it’s hard to imagine Bielik and Laird missing Davies’ 18. Harris, a young Wales international that Davies thinks highly of, is comparable. Given Alex Cochrane’s impressive performances at left-back and the probability that Davies will start with just one full-back on his bench, Buchanan may have an easier time of it. It makes sense that the manager of the Blues wants League One teams to be able to choose the two extra substitutes that Premier League and Championship teams have.

Teams in League One are already leaving out Ayumu Yokoyama and Lukas Jutkiewicz. As Bielik, Laird, Buchanan, and Harris return, the list will grow and Davies’ decisions will get more challenging.
