49ers also eye Leeds move to sign £4m defender alongside Cheikhou Kouyate

According to a recent transfer report, Leeds United and 49ers Enterprises are reportedly “keeping tabs” on a £4 million international defender in addition to Cheikhou Kouyate.

Leeds is considering acquiring Kouyate, a free agent.

Kouyate, a Senegal veteran who left Nottingham Forest at the end of the previous season and is now a free agent, has been linked to the Whites in recent days.

The 34-year-old reportedly agreed to a free transfer to Elland Road earlier this week in order to alleviate Daniel Farke’s burden of having both Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu sidelined for the foreseeable future due to injuries. He reportedly finished his medical, and the transfer was nearing completion.

There has reportedly been a change in the scenario, though, as trustworthy journalist Adam Pope has reported that Kouyate’s transfer to Leeds is still up in the air and won’t happen as soon as previously thought.

Even while the Whites’ interest in the former Forest player is presently dominating the team’s transfer rumours, a new rumour about a different player has surfaced.

Leeds wants to acquire an international defender at £4 million.

The Mirror claims that Leeds is one of the teams “keeping tabs” on FCSB defender Joyskim Dawa, with Fulham and Everton of the Premier League also interested.

The 28-year-old’s “representatives believe he is capable of playing at the top level” and he has won both of his Europa League games this season. He has a £4 million release clause, according to the article, which means the Whites and others can sign him in 2025 for a comparatively inexpensive price in the current game.

FCSB defender Joyskim Dawa

Dawa may be a great addition to Leeds’ roster, joining in the January transfer window and strengthening Farke’s defence to give them more strength as they pursue promotion to the Championship in the second half of the season.

In his 106 games for FCSB, he has contributed 11 goals, which is a respectable total for a centre defence. He has also earned nine caps for Cameroon on the international scene.

Given that Joe Rodon (91.6%) and Pascal Struijk (92.2%) have excelled in that part of their games this season, Dawa has completed 89.5% of his passes in his two Europa League appearances, indicating that Farke would find his skill on the ball appealing. Additionally, he has demonstrated his defensive prowess out of possession by averaging an astounding seven clearances per game in Europe.

With Ampadu a solid option at centre-back and Max Wober out due to injury, Leeds must make a move in that position in January or risk losing the promotion battle if Struijk or Rodon both have an unexpected setback.
