Chris Davies can no longer ignore Birmingham City star and Alfie May might pay the price

Chris Davies can no longer ignore Birmingham City star and Alfie May might pay the price.

Chris Davies has a selection conundrum to think about before Birmingham City’s next League One match against Lincoln City.

Scott Wright’s impressive performance against Shrewsbury Town suggests he could make his first league start for Birmingham City.

Wright has been used as a substitute in League One matches by Chris Davies, although there is rising demand for him to start.

The winger’s two goals at Shrewsbury, as well as his assist for Tomoki Iwata, have increased his chances of being included in the Blues’ starting lineup against Lincoln City next weekend.

Despite the fact that every player wants to start, Wright has adopted Davies”starters and finishers’ philosophy. This season, no Blues player has played more minutes off the bench than the 27-year-old Scot.

“It’s different opportunities at different times, whether that’s from the start or the bench, I just want to help the team as much as I can – goals, assists or just running with the ball and trying to bring my strengths to the team,” commented Wright.

“We have a beautiful changing room with everyone eager to help the squad. It’s a societal issue rather than a personal one here.”

If Wright joins the Blues’ starting lineup, he will most likely replace Willum Willumsson, Jay Stansfield, or Alfie May.

Willumsson and Stansfield are gone on international duty with Iceland and England under-21s, respectively, while May remains in the building.

This week’s Keep Right On Podcast featured a discussion about Davies’ Wright selection dilemma and potential replacements.

Alex Dicken stated, “I would start him to replace May.” Scott Wright would play on the right, Willumsson in the center, and Hansson on the left behind Stansfield.

“There’s always a debate over the international break about whether the manager will stick with a group he’s worked with before, but Chris Davies probably can’t afford to this time since he has so many vital players away.

Stansfield will undoubtedly return and play, as will Paik. If Luke Harris were fit, Willumsson might not play, but I believe he will.

Brian Dick believes Scott Wright has earned a spot in the starting lineup. The machine currently favours his skill set, and just as Taylor Gardner-Hickman is a cog in the machine’s operation, so is Scott Wright, and it’s all about relationships. Wright and Gardner-Hickman’s relationship appears to be going well right now.
