Why the fuss? Toni Kroos wasn’t wrong, Celtic were second rate in Dortmund

Why the fuss? Toni Kroos wasn’t wrong, Celtic were second rate in Dortmund.

Toni Kroos, a Real Madrid star, called Celtic a’second class team’ after their 7-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

Four-time Champions League champion

The 34-year-old resigned after EURO 2024 and was dissatisfied with the Hoops’ Champions League performance at the Westfalenstadion.

Prior to the two teams’ encounter in September 2022, the four-time Champions League winner and World Cup champion praised Celtic as a team he had always desired to play against.

Two years ago, the famous midfielder played 90 minutes in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win in Glasgow’s East End, completing his Celtic Park adventure.

“I have a new number one to tell you about! Celtic Park”.

After the match, Toni Kroos stated that it was the finest environment he had ever played in. “I was asked several times which stadium is my favorite.” And there is a new number one, I can assure you! Celtic Park. It has been really wild! We came out, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The Champions League song began, and I believed the stadium was about to fall. Unbelievable; I’d never seen anything like that.”

 Celtic are a second-class opponent.

Despite his appreciation for Celtic off the pitch, his words this week indicate that he does not think highly of the team on the play. Kroos, who has 114 caps, was harshly critical of Brendan Rodgers’ squad in Dortmund.

Speaking to German site Einfach mal Luppen, he stated, “I think last week was the classic example of a Borussia Dortmund week.”They won 7-1 in the Champions League, although against a second-tier opponent.

Dortmund will be assessed based on how they do in the Bundesliga, not Europe.

“And then they went to play a Bundesliga game over the weekend, when they put up a usually awful performance and lost. In the end, Dortmund will be assessed on how they perform in the Bundesliga, not in Europe. “They will not reach the Champions League final every year.”

It’s hardly unexpected that Dortmund’s thumping of Celtic in the second Champions League match of the season has significantly harmed our European standing.

Current and former footballers have made positive remarks about how exciting the atmosphere at Parkhead is. However, we’d all prefer they praised Celtic’s on-field abilities and how unpleasant it is to play against a Brendan Rodgers team.
