Southampton boss namedrops Sheffield Wednesday duo in Shea Charles prediction
So far, Charles has made an impression while on loan at Hillsborough. He has put up some great performances while wearing the Owls uniform, and in their most recent game, they triumphed over Coventry City late in the game to score Charles’ first goal as a professional.
The 20-year-old has excelled in the Wednesday midfield alongside Barry Bannan, the seasoned skipper, and Martin believes that Josh Windass and “outstanding” Baz will be beneficial influences for him. Charles states that his goal is to close the gap that needs to be closed in order for him to get to the top division.
“He’s probably doing Baz’s running,” Martin joked with the Daily Echo. “What is he now, 34? I’m pretty sure Shea has made his job easier. He’s learning – and this is why it will be so important for him, rather than being in and around the first team as an option because the Premier League is such a big jump.
“He is present, gaining knowledge, and participating in significant games. For him, this loan time will be quite beneficial. We are incredibly happy for him. Barry also makes me very happy. Among the most gifted football players I’ve ever played with, Baz is an incredible player. He’s still got it going on. He and Josh Windass, among other experienced individuals, will be of great assistance to Shea.
“I hope it’s fun for Shea. He’s had a lot of conversations with Gilly (Saints assistant manager Matt Gill), and he appears to be having fun. He must continue to move forward and develop.”
Charles is anticipated to start Wednesday’s game once more. Since joining on loan prior to the transfer window closing, Charles has started every Wednesday game.
