Saints defender meets with rival: AFL trade news - AFL News - Zero Hanger

Ben Paton, a St Kilda small defender, has apparently visited with GWS, who are looking to bring in ready-made players.

The Giants are looking to improve their defensive line-up after losing Isaac Cumming (Adelaide), Harry Perryman (Collingwood), and Nick Haynes (Carlton).

Paton has played 71 games since being selected with Pick 46 in the 2017 National Draft, but has only appeared in four games this season.

The 25-year-old remains in uncertainty for next year, having not yet received a contract for 2025 and not been included in St Kilda’s delistings thus far.

The Giants have traditionally utilized the rookie draft to re-pick delisted players, but they will be looking for experience following the trading period.

Paton is in his prime and can limit some of the game’s greatest small forwards.

He would enhance their back half with pace and daring, similar to Adam Kingsley’s style.

If the Saints delist him, GWS may sign him as a delisted free agent or try to arrange a trade.
