Roy Keane urges Ten Hag to drop Man Utd pair as FC Twente proved centre-back is ‘not the answer’

Roy Keane on England

Roy Keane has encouraged Erik ten Hag to cut two Manchester United players, claiming his old club would be “in trouble” if they rely on them.

Ten Hag is under pressure at United after clinging to his job in the summer. His side is now 14th in the Premier League, having won only two of their first seven games.

It was anticipated that the United leaders might act during the international break, but it has been reported that the Dutchman will remain in his position for the time being.

According to Keane, that may not last long if he remains with Harry Maguire and Christian Eriksen.

On the Stick To Football podcast, Keane stated: “If you go back to Harry Maguire you are in trouble.”

Jill Scott said, “I think he always has the right attitude.”

Keane: “Ah, Jill! Do you see the goal? Consider his defense for the equalizer against FC Twente. Simply look to him for that aim. If you believe he is the solution. You cannot keep returning to Maguire and Eriksen.

“In recent years, they have made several changes, including the removal of Fred and McTominay. Center halves. Maguire and Eriksen have been back in the team for the past several weeks.

“You’ve returned to the lads who are part of the problem!” I’m not saying this on their own, of course, but if you believe Maguire is the answer!”

Maguire revealed that he will “miss a few weeks” after limping off in the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, but Eriksen appears to be available as Ten Hag attempts to get things back on track against Brentford next time out.

Keane referred to the Danish international as a “fool” for breaking ranks after the draw with Twente. Let’s hope he keeps his lips shut in the future.

Eriksen stated: “I believe we are primarily disappointed as a squad.

“Even if you feel that and it hasn’t happened where you felt they wanted it more than you, you don’t bloody say it do you, you fool.

“Someone should get a grip of him and say ‘Why are you sending messages about us for?’”
