FROM THE BASQUE COUNTRY TO NORFOLK – HOW BORJA SAINZ FOUND HIS FEET AT NORWICH CITY

In Spanish football, Borja Sainz never quite seemed to find his footing. He was a struggler at both Deportivo Alavés and Real Zaragoza, managing just five goals in 79 games.

The 23-year-old had to relocate to Norwich and then Turkey before he could truly showcase his abilities. Sainz has certainly done that in the opening 11 games of the EFL Championship season, with eight goals and two assists.

With performances such as these, the young player was named September’s EFL Player of the Month.

The winger is now aiming for promotion as his season goal after matching his record from the previous campaign.

In an interview with Marca Radio, Sainz stated clearly that he intended to take Norwich to the Premier League, stating, “The very difficult challenge is coming up.” I believe we can aim for the Play-offs and then, well, see what transpires. I believe that the team should focus on each game individually.

Norwich is one point out of those coveted Play-Off spots right now, as they are sitting in seventh position in the Championship. It is definitely still possible.

If Sainz & co. find a consistent run of form, it is also very conceivable to do this, as the team is only four points away from automatic promotion.

Regarding his achievements after relocating to England, Sainz stated, “My self-confidence is the most crucial factor.” When I’m on the pitch, I can feel it. That’s everything to me.
