FIFA bans Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o for six months over misconduct

The head of Cameroon’s football team will be disciplined for his “offensive behaviour” during a World Cup match for women’s under-

20 teams.

Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) chief Samuel Eto’o has been banned from attending the national team’s matches for six

months after violating FIFA’s disciplinary regulations, football’s governing body said.

The former Barcelona striker has been president of Fecafoot since 2021 and will now be barred from all men’s and women’s games

across various age groups.

“The sanction was imposed in connection with the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup round-of-16 match between Brazil and

Cameroon played in Bogota, Colombia, on 11 September 2024,” FIFA said in a statement on Monday.

The head of Cameroon’s football team will be disciplined for his “offensive behaviour” during a World Cup match for women’s under-20 teams.

Football’s governing body said that Samuel Eto’o, the head of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), has been barred from

seeing games involving his country for a period of six months due to his violation of FIFA’s disciplinary rules.

The former Barcelona striker, who has served as Fecafoot’s president since 2021, will no longer be allowed to participate in any men’s or women’s competitions for any age category.

FIFA said in a statement on Monday that the sanction was related to the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup round-of-16 match

between Brazil and Cameroon that took place in Bogota, Colombia, on September 11, 2024.

The Confederation of African Football found Eto’o’s brand arrangement with an online gambling company to be unethical, and he was

fined $200,000 for it in July.

Eto’o was at odds with his nation’s sports ministry as well, labelling their earlier this year nomination of Belgian Marc Brys as the

men’s team coach as “illegal.”

After Rigobert Song, Eto’o is the second-most-capped player in Cameroon history. He has won the African Player of the Year award

four times. The forward had a stellar club career as well, winning four Champions League titles with three separate teams.

He was caught on camera assaulting a man outside a stadium in Qatar in 2022 after a heated argument and altercation.
