West Brom will love Mo Faal development at Wrexham AFC: View

Mo Faal, a young striker, moved from West Brom to Wrexham on transfer deadline day earlier this year. The striker made the move down a tier to try to gain consistent playing time.

Having joined the Baggies in 2019, Faal progressed through the ranks at The Hawthorns until making his first-team debut in 2021. Following stints on loan in the National League and the EFL, he left the team permanently this summer, meaning he would not be getting many first-team opportunities.

Some Baggies fans will be keeping an eye on him this season at the Racecourse Ground because he came up through the ranks at West Brom. Although he hasn’t had much luck since moving to North Wales, there are indications that the 21-year-old may be in for better times.

Although he hasn’t yet made his league debut, his performance in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night marked his second appearance for Wrexham and served as the ideal reminder of his abilities.

Having played exclusively in the EFL Trophy, Faal has not yet made his league debut for Wrexham. He was chosen, along with Paul Mullin, for their most recent match against Wolves U21’s.

Even if playing in the EFL Trophy against a U21 team is always going to be low-key, it gives players a chance to prove they belong in Phil Parkinson’s League One starting lineup, and Faal seized the chance.

It may have made some West Brom fans happy when he scored his first goal for the Red Dragons as Wrexham easily won 3-0, their first victory in the competition this season.

We all know that West Brom and Wolves are bitter rivals, so the fact that a former West Brom academy product scored against Wolves will undoubtedly please a number of their supporters.

Even though it was just Wolves’ U21 team and not their starting lineup, some Baggies fans will still be rejoicing in the occasion and believe that Faal’s first goal for Wrexham came at the ideal time.

Because they play in separate leagues, West Brom and Wolves don’t face one other very frequently, but when they do, it’s always a heated match, as demonstrated by their FA Cup match last season at The Hawthorns.

It would have been great to see a West Brom academy product score against their Black Country rivals, and they will be hoping that their former striker can now move on and establish himself in the starting lineup at the Racecourse.

EFL Trophy goal is exactly what Mo Faal needed at Wrexham

As alluded to above, Faal has struggled for minutes so far, and it was imperative that he impressed when given opportunities in the cup, and it looks as if he’s taken that opportunity.

Given some of the talent Parkinson has at his disposal, it was inevitable that Faal would have to wait his turn given Wrexham’s unprecedented trajectory, which will see them aim for three consecutive promotions. However, a performance like the one on Tuesday night will undoubtedly mean the 21-year-old is in his thoughts going forward.

The former West Brom player’s initial goal should be to get a spot on the bench in order to maybe win a few cameo appearances in the league. He was not used as a substitute for his first two League One games after entering, but ever then, he has been completely cut from the matchday squad.

Faal was aware that he would need to perform well in the EFL Trophy in order to be considered for Parkinson’s league ambitions, and his goal against the Wolves U21 team would have elevated his status inside the team.

Faal’s goal against Wolves was crucial, and it would have delighted West Brom fans as well. For the 21-year-old, it was a true win-win.
