Watch: Liam Scales Scores First International Goal for Ireland

On Thursday night, during Ireland’s UEFA Nations League match against Finland, Liam Scales scored his first goal for the team, continuing his incredible climb.

Robbie Brady’s well-placed free kick resulted in the goal. After Brady sent the ball into the box, Scales deftly removed

his marker. He was standing on the edge of the six-yard box when he lifted his head to meet the ball and sent it

straight into the upper right corner. Ireland levelled after the equaliser, and Scales relished the opportunity.

Only one month has passed since Scales scored his first-ever Champions League goal in Celtic’s triumph over Slovan Bratislava.

Scales has had an incredible journey, going from being an afterthought in the squad when Brendan Rodgers arrived

to now being a vital member of both Celtic’s and Ireland’s defensive lineups. He was once thought of as a supporting

actor, but he has since proven many of his sceptics wrong by becoming a reliable performer.

The defender did commit an error last weekend against Ross County, giving the home team a penalty that they

successfully converted after he committed a flagrant handball in the box. That time, his teammates came through for him, and Celtic won incredibly late.

The ascent of Scales has been a tale of perseverance and diligence. His recent Celtic performances have demonstrated his ability to compete at the greatest level, and now his efforts are being acknowledged internationally as well.
