“Investigation Review” Former Sheffield United defender George Baldock has died at the age of 31, Super League Greece has announced.

Super League Greece has reported the death of former Sheffield United defender George Baldock, who was thirty-one years old.

After seven years at Bramall Lane, Greece international Baldock signed for Panathinaikos this summer, making his debut in August.

Greece’s sources said that Baldock’s body was discovered at his residence in the Glyfada neighborhood of Athens.

The Greek club wrote, “We are shocked, we are shocked by the loss of our George,” in a tribute that they shared on Instagram. The family of Panathinaikos is grieving his untimely passing. We are in solidarity with George Baldock’s family and kin.”

Despite not being included in Greece’s most recent international roster, Baldock played in Panathinaikos’ 0-0 tie with Olympiacos on Sunday. On Thursday night, when the team plays England at Wembley Stadium, there will be a moment of silence to honor his untimely death. There will be black armbands on both teams.

A statement from the Super League Greece read: “The entire Super League football family expresses its deep sorrow for the untimely loss of Panathinaikos and our national team footballer, George Baldock, and extends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

“The National Team and the Hellenic Football Federation say goodbye to George Baldock with deep sadness and pain,” a statement from the Greek Football Federation said. The news of the premature death of one of our young people causes an indescribable amount of human anguish. Silence is necessary at this moment. My sympathies to his family. From his second family, my condolences. Farewell.”

Harry Maguire, an England international and former Sheffield United player, shared a picture of Baldock on Instagram along with the words “RIP” and a heartbreak emoji.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former loanee George Baldock at the tragically young age of 31,” Northampton, where Baldock spent a loan spell in 2011, posted on X.

“George appeared in five games in 2011 prior to joining Sheffield United and Oxford United. We extend our deepest sympathies to George’s friends and family.”

Born in England, Baldock began his professional career with eight years at MK Dons.

In 2017, following multiple loan stints at Tamworth, Oxford United, and Northampton, the defender joined Sheffield United on a permanent basis.

Before joining Greek team Panathinaikos this summer, he made over 200 appearances for the Blades, including 83 Premier League games in which he recorded six assists and two goals.

Baldock, who has received twelve caps for the Greek national team, has made four appearances this season in all competitions.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Hellenic Police in Athens stated:

“The Attica Security Directorate is in charge of the preliminary inquiry. After being called to the scene, a forensic pathologist looked over the body and found no signs of criminal activity.

“The police conducted a negative search of the residence to look for indications of a break-in.

“In addition, a specialised team of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the police carried out a check on the house in order to rule out the possibility of criminal activity.”
